Markey’s Transportation Bond Bill Amendment Adopted; Will Send $500K To Dartmouth For Padanaram Bridge Rehab
(BOSTON) – On Wednesday, the House of Representatives adopted State Representative Christopher M. Markey’s amendment to House Bill #4179, the Transportation Bond Bill, which would allocate $500,000.00 to the Padanaram Bridge Rehabilitation Project. House Bill #4179, after passage by the House, will then be taken up by the Senate before landing on the Governor’s desk. The bill would fund more than $300 million in transportation and infrastructure projects statewide.
Currently, the Padanaram Bridge is subject to closures that are far too frequent for Markey (D-Dartmouth) and, in addition to adding time to residents commute to and around the area, it also poses a safety hazard. “If the Bridge closes and an ambulance or fire truck has to get to the other side, you’re in big trouble,” said Markey. He added, “it’s a safety hazard, an inconvenience to our residents, and an unwelcome obstacle to the many visitors who come to enjoy the natural splendor of our Town. This money won’t fix everything, but it’s a good start. I’ll continue to fight for additional funding for this and other infrastructure projects critical to Dartmouth.”
